Beth Biundo, longtime Lilette pastry chef, interior designer, and proprietor of the occasional pop-up and regular online shop Beth Biundo Sweets, will open a brick and mortar bakery in the space formerly occupied by Cleaver & Co (3917 Baronne St, New Orleans), which closed last month, reports Todd Price. The shop is expected to open in late June.
Biundo worked as the pastry chef at Lilette for 10 years and was a semifinalist for the James Beard Award for outstanding pastry chef in the United States four times. She took a break from baking and pastries in 2014 to work as an interior designer, but returned to host a pop-up. Soon, she launched a website and was accepting orders by email.
Price reports that having a physical shop for Beth Biundo Sweets was something Biundo had been thinking about for a while, but was waiting to find the perfect space. According to Price, “At Beth Biundo Sweets you'll find cookies, treats and cakes by the slice. Whole cakes will be available in the cases. The shop will also have cards and gifts. Biundo plans to soon add coffee and ice cream, the latter was a specialty of hers at Lilette. The ice cream will be sold by the pint.”
