The Ugly Dog Saloon & BBQ will open a second location in Metairie on May 12, reports Littice Bacon-Blood of NOLA.com. The first location opened in the Warehouse District in 1998. The new location at 3220 Severn Ave. takes the place of the former home of Phil’s Grill, which closed in November. It is near Lakeside Mall.
There will be a few minor changes to the menu at the new location. While the Warehouse District spot caters mostly to “tourists, empty-nesters, and young professionals,” the Metairie location will focus on families. A kids’ menu is in the works with basic offerings like chicken tenders, hamburger sliders, and mac and cheese. Additionally, a “smoked duck slider with cherry barbecue” dish will be introduced at the Metairie location’s opening.
Metairie guests can also look forward to “picnic tables, but also traditional tables, high-tops with pub-style seating, and a full-service bar,” according to the report.
The Ugly Dog Saloon preceded the Hogs for the Cause and the current barbecue craze in New Orleans. It also opened far before the Warehouse District became a dining destination. This is the first expansion for the barbecue restaurant.
