Casamento’s Tops List of Seafood Dives — But it Isn't a Dive

And more top dining intel

Eater NOLA

  • Coastal Living magazine has listed the “20 All-Time Best Seafood Dives” in the U.S. Casamento’s is listed as number eight on the list. Perhaps the bigger news is that Casamento’s is a dive (really?). “Seafood dives are all about fresh catch, comfort foods, flip-flops and a water view,” said Steele Marcoux, Editor-in-Chief of the Coastal Living brand, via a press release. Casamento’s has a water view? Let’s just say that Casamento’s is so good that the magazine threw all the rules out just to include it in the list. In all honesty, the list is a pretty great road map of some of the best seafood spots in the U.S. and def worth a glance, dive and water view or not.
  • Hopefully temporary sad news for the many, many fans of Koreole, which started as a food stand in the St. Roch Market. The Korean/Creole mash-up has sidelined its plans to expand to a brick and mortar grocery and deli on St. Claude. Owner Kayti Chung-Williams says her doctor has ordered her to “transition to a low-impact lifestyle for a while,” reports Helen Freund. The stand at St. Roch closed last year. [GAMBIT]
  • Todd Price does the numbers at some of critic Brett Anderson’s fave crawfish spots and reports that the price of crawfish has dropped 14 cents a pound. Go get ‘em. [NOLA.COM]
  • Sad news for Unicorn Frappuccino lovers. The Maple Street Starbucks posted a sign today that said, “The Unicorn sold out. The Unicorn was empowered and touched by your belief but had to return to its own magical realm — Thanks for believing!”
