Dong Phuong Bakery (Accidentally) Gave Away Free King Cakes All Season

  • We all get gotten by Mardi Gras at one point or another. Anyone who bought anything from Dong Phuong Bakery by credit card from December 2016 and March 18, 2017 (which basically covers all of king cake season), was not charged. They will be though. The Dong Phuong Bakery posted a note on its website to inform customers about the mix-up. According to a report by Ann Maloney, a rep from the bakery says it was because of a “faulty switchbox, an Internet connection box” that had gone bad, preventing the credit card machine from working properly. Patrons should expect charges from the bakery on their March bills. [NOLA.COM]
  • Broad Street Cider & Ale, a micro-distillery planned for Washington Avenue near Laurel Street Bakery, received initial approval from city officials on Tuesday. The Green Coast Enterprises project would make a limited amount of hard cider and sell “other brands beer, wine and alcoholic beverages for our customers to purchase and consume at the location.”[UPTOWN MESSENGER]
  • The LA-SPCA fundraiser Brunch Fest has been rescheduled for April 22. General admission and VIP tickets bought in advance will be honored, and the event will be from 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. in Crescent Park. [GAMBIT]
