Beer garden and sausage seller Bratz Y’all (617 Piety St, New Orleans) opened its doors in the Bywater on Friday, according to Will Coviello of the Gambit, with a menu full of brats, other pork sausages, schnitzel, pretzels, apple strudel, and other authentic German food. The owner is German chef Sven Vorkauf, who moved from Berlin to New Orleans after meeting and marrying a New Orleanian. In 2012, he began serving his German food at local festivals and markets.
His Bywater brick and mortar restaurant is located on Piety Street behind Pizza Delicious. The space was formerly occupied by pretzel-maker, ASAP Pretzels. The space features indoor dining and an outdoor courtyard designed to resemble a typical German beer garden.
In 2016, Vorkauf took home top honors for both best sausage poboy and best pork poboy. After developing a huge following, patrons kept asking where the restaurant was. It has arrived, ya’ll. [GAMBIT]
