Lula Restaurant-Distillery Debuts Monday in the LGD

Boudin egg rolls, draught cocktails, and seafood boils

At long last Lower Garden District eatery Lula Restaurant-Distillery is ready to throw open its doors to the masses. The restaurant is slated to debut on Monday, February 13, according to an announcement on the Lula Facebook page.

Chef/owner Jess Bourgeois and his partner distiller Bear Caffery have been plotting Lula since 2014 when they first set their sights on the Halpern’s Furniture Store at 1532 St. Charles Avenue. But rezoning and other delays pushed back the launch date several times.

The 10,000-square-foot destination features custom-built copper stills used to produce gluten-free vodka, gin, and rum from Louisiana sugarcane. The bar program will have a focus on draught cocktails in addition to beer and wine. The menu features riffs on Louisiana “country”-style dishes including boudin egg rolls, braised rabbit and white beans, Lula rum-lacquered Gulf shrimp, and seafood boils.

Lula's sign is up! Almost open!
