As per tradition, Eater asked a group of journalists, bloggers, and friends of the site to weigh in on the year in food. Here, experts share their best meals of 2017.

Liz Williams, founder and president, Southern Food and Beverage Museum: “I still think that the best meals are in homes.”

Elizabeth Pearce, cocktail historian, writer, guide, founder of Drink & Learn: “Brennan’s dinner. Amazing. Creative and delicious.”

Jay Forman, food and dining editor, New Orleans Magazine: “A private dinner for 15 I put together with the crew at Cochon for a mini-college reunion. The recent expansion to the restaurant opened up some nice group tables on the mezzanine and the family-style meal was fantastic. The kitchen sent out some awesome lagniappe including a mountainous pork shank. Also, my friend Lane drank a whole bottle of hot sauce.”

Nora McGunnigle, freelance writer and founder of NOLAbeerblog.com: “A variety of small plates from Freret Beer Room - salami piccata, blistered shishito peppers, tomato/burrata crostini, meatballs/polenta. OR, the Julia Child dinner at Meauxbar. (Very different vibes, so I include both).”
