Curbed NOLA has a thorough inside look the latest Ruby Slipper cafe, opening Friday, December 22 (that’s tomorrow!) in Mid-City. The two-story brick masonry building at 315 South Broad Avenue is the former Carpenters & Joiners Union Hall.
Floor one of the historic, newly renovated building is a 4,900-square-foot restaurant, with seating for over 120 people. Curbed NOLA reports that the owners were working under The National Park Service’s Historic Preservation Standards and Guidelines — the brick facade, the interior plaster walls, and steel window sashes all got a major upgrade.
Floor two is an office space with both private and open office areas, a commissary kitchen and break rooms. To honor the historic quality of the building, Curbed NOLA reports, the owners restored the original tile of the second-floor bathroom.
Ruby Slipper — the Southern-tinged brunch and breakfast mini-chain — already operates four locations throughout New Orleans, one location in Baton Rouge, as well as a few outside the state, in Florida and Orange Beach, Alabama. There’s one location slated to open in Mobile, Alabama next spring.
