Lucy’s Retired Surfer Bar, which operates a location in the Warehouse District, will open outposts in Costa Rica and Aruba soon. The Costa Rican location will open tomorrow, December 15. The restaurant in Aruba is anticipated to open in February 2018.
The colorful, surfer-themed bar first opened in New York’s Upper West Wide in 1985 before moving south (because, really, no surfer really retires in NY’s Upper West Side). In 2016, New Orleans-based investment company Kirkendoll Management acquired the Lucy’s trademark after Lucy's founder Bruce Rampick terminated the licensing agreement with operators TWTB Inc. in the fall of 2015 due to "violations of the terms of a trademark license." Lucy’s and spent $600,000 renovating the 7,000 square foot bar in the Warehouse District. Since then, it opened another outpost in Key West.
Kirkendoll also runs various strip clubs, like Penthouse and The Gold Club. It also runs Bonhomie restaurant in Austin.
