Earlier today we posted the news that Mariza, the well-loved, upscale casual Italian restaurant in Bywater is closing on the last day of this month. The report from Ian McNulty stated that while the space already had a new buyer and concept — but that neither were ready to be announced.

Turns out, just a few hours later — thanks to NOLA.com — we know who is taking over the space, and it’s a doozy: Nina Compton.

Compton and her husband, Larry Miller — who live above the new spot, in Rice Mill Lofts — will open their new restaurant in February, though no other details about cuisine or type have yet been released.

The TBD restaurant will be Compton’s second foray into the NOLA scene, after her acclaimed Compère Lapin, which opened in the summer of 2015 in the Warehouse District.

Compton is a native of St. Lucia, and moved to the Crescent City from Miami after competing on the season of Top Chef based in NOLA.
