Vega Tapas Space Slated to Become Mexican Restaurant From Brasa Churrasqueria Owners

Opening in March

The new Mexican restaurant will go in the Vega Tapas space
Yelp/Ham B.

Old Metairie will get a “new modern Mexican restaurant” from Edgar Caro and Antonio Mata, the folks behind the recently opened South American steakhouse Brasa Churrasqueria (also in Old Metairie, just down the block) and Basin Seafood and Spirits. Caro also owns Baru Bistro and Tapas on Magazine Street. The restaurant will open in March at 2051 Metairie Road in the spot that housed Vega Tapas for 21 years, reports NOLA.COM.

Vega Tapas closed this past summer for its regular break, but never reopened its doors. Owner Greg Francis said that the summer months, which were usually some of the busiest for the restaurant, saw the revenue decrease by half. Meanwhile, Brasa Churrasqueria opened just down the block on June 14.

To research authentic Mexican food, the pair plan to travel to Tulum and Oaxaca.

No name yet for the new spot.
