Besh Steak, inside Harrah’s New Orleans Casino, is now BH Steak, reports Ian McNulty at The Advocate. The font of its outdoor signage is unchanged — and so is the interior design and staff — but the change of name, argues McNulty, is huge (and symbolic.)
Harrah’s Casino cut its ties with Besh in late October after allegations of institutionalized sexual harassment against the chef and his restaurant group came to light. The staff of Besh Steak was not under Besh Restaurant Group — they worked for Harrah’s — and a rep for Harrah’s said that as far as was known, none of the harassment allegations pertained to the in-casino dining spot.
For now, the changes remain somewhat superficial — slight menu tweaks, signage crops — but McNulty relays that more changes should be forthcoming.
The new name for the steakhouse is a tribute to the late William “Bill” Harrah, who founded the casino — starting his gambling empire with bingo parlors in the 1930s.
