In mid-September, Brett Anderson broke the stunning news that John Besh and Alon Shaya, the megastar chef dream team known for building restaurants and winning James Beard Awards, were parting ways.
Shortly after the split was announced, Besh Restaurant Group was hit with 25 allegations of sexual harassment and misconduct, with many saying that John Besh encouraged a culture of sexual harassment.
Notably, Alon Shaya believes he was fired from his job at all three of the restaurants he helmed and partly owned within the Besh Restaurant Group because he chose to ‘stand up’ and talk to a reporter about the issues. It’s worth noting that, according to the report, Shaya’s restaurants were not immune to the allegations, though Shaya himself was not named.
