With one location already up and running in the CBD, New York-based street food sensation The Halal Guys is primed to launch its second New Orleans restaurant. The latest outpost at 5001 Freret St. in Uptown is slated to debut on February 4, according to the chain’s Facebook page.
The company known for its white sauce-drizzled chicken and lamb has gained a reputation for drawing big opening crowds. The Freret opening will feature a lineup of freebies to entice customers. T-shirts and VIP cups good for free refills for life will be on hand for the first 100 patrons in line. There’s also currently a Facebook contest that enters fans to win free Halal Guys for six months. The restaurant will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. during the grand opening.
New Orleans isn’t the only city in the midst of a Halal Guys invasion. The cult favorite, which got its start as a cart on 53rd Street in New York, began a major franchising push in 2014. Since then, the company has launch locations in Dallas, Los Angeles, Atlanta, and beyond.
