Wedge Salads Are All The Rage in The LGD

What the critics are saying this week

This week Helen Freund heads to fun LGD cake and cocktail spot Bakery Bar: “A short menu of savory options... are appropriate for snacking” including “beautiful cheese and charcuterie” and an “excellent” wedge with hints of dill, tzatziki and cucumber. But the star of the show is the case of doberge cake in various flavors and salty balls, “orbs of salted cake batter encased in chocolate,” which are best paired with a signature cocktail featuring “handmade shrubs and sodas.” [Gambit]

Whimsy and wedge salad wins over Todd Price at newly opened LGD hotspot Turkey And The Wolf: At this "madcap venture," former Coquette sous Mason Hereford and partner/cocktail whiz Lauren Holton turn out an array of eclectic and imaginative eats including the "house-smoked ham [sandwich] with cranberry sauce and herbed mayonnaise," a chicken fried Wagyu steak sandwich, creamy baba ghanoush, headcheese tacos, and a wedge that comes slathered in everything bagel seasoning (ie. onion and garlic galore). Kristine Froeba finds great new menu items at Oak Street staple Cowbell: Most folks head here for burgers, but “daily specials should still take precedence when ordering” especially on Fridays, when the “Laurence Fishburger... a Gulf Redfish and Shrimp burger garnished with Remoulade and Radish Sprouts,” makes an appearance. Hawaiian influences are going strong here too, with an ahi poke bowl and a pineapple barbecue-glazed pork chop newly added to the menu, as chef Brack May’s father hails from Hawaii. Other new delights: smoked pork and collard green “redneck” eggrolls, charcuterie, wings in a smoked bacon & chili sauce, and house-made moonshine including a bacon version. [UptownMessenger]
