NOLA— Doug MacCash reports that Emile Rufin, former restaurateur of Ye Olde College Inn, passed away at 98 last week: "He and his two brothers started working for their dad, Denis Rufin, at the Carrollton Avenue restaurant in 1939... The railroad dropped off out-of-state Tulane football fans near the intersection... so Denis Rufin gave his 24-hour diner a name that would appeal to the passing pigskin crowd." [NOLA.com]

SLIDELL— Slidell food truck Old School Eats has just won $10,000 via a food truck contest sponsored by Progressive Commercial Auto Insurance which will allow owners to install an air conditioning system. [Eaterwire]

RIVERBEND— Ann Maloney reports that the Al Copeland Foundation is hosting a family-friendly Chicken Jam tomorrow, July 6, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Southport Hall (200 Monticello Ave.) to raise money for cancer research.
