Ian McNulty finds many reasons to visit the often overshadowed Marigny restaurant Bao & Noodle this week: The Chinese restaurant from Herbsaint alum Doug Crowell and wife Asia Wong does "robust" regional Chinese that "ranks among the best bangs for your buck for adventurous eats in New Orleans." It's BYOB (at no charge) with take out and delivery available, as well as a pop-up-like dining appeal in a former coffee shop.
So what to order? Rousong bao topped with pork "wool," biang biang noodles with braised lamb, and the "pork shank, which comes out lustrously dark, the meat dense and full and cleaving into big chunks" that you can then turn into "bite-sized wraps with the kale and rice served around the meat."
