Urban South Brewery Releases Its First Seasonal on June 24

The folks at Urban South Brewery on Tchoupitoulas have been doing quite well for themselves since they opened about three months ago. They've doubled their capacity with the installation of new fermentation tanks — two 90-bbl fermenters, a 90-bbl brite tank, and a 60-bbl fermenter— and are on the cusp of releasing their first seasonal beer, Delta Momma.

This summer seasonal is a Vienna-style lager brewed with lots of Citra hops, which makes the beer crisp, refreshing, but with a strong hoppy note, resulting in citrus hop aromas and flavors. The alcohol by volume (ABV) is 5.5%, making it an easy-drinking and tasty beer for the upcoming Southern summer.

Enjoy its release in cans and on draft right now or celebrate the release with a party co-sponsored by the NOLA Moms Blog on Friday, 6/24. Note: This is not just for moms or for women. Everyone is welcome, except kids— this is actually a 21+ event, although kids are welcome there during regular hours. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased ahead of time on EventBrite, or at the door at the event.

Although the event is decidedly co-ed, Urban South Vice President notes that a big advantage to co-hosting with the NOLA Moms Blog is to reach a new beer audience. "We know that the loyal craft beer consumers are going to go out and try the beer, but expanding the reach of craft beer is crucial to the long term success of our industry. Female craft beer drinkers are on the rise, and we hope to continue that growth at Urban South."

For $30, enjoy two Urban South beers, food from local restaurants Mizado Cocina, Reginelli's, Dat Dog, Cafe Adelaide, and Jambalaya Girl, along with cookies from Sugar High NOLA and the opportunity to win some badass prizes (all raffle proceeds going to benefit the LA SPCA, who seems to know that it's a sure thing to hang around people drinking beer) Also included in the price of the ticket is a Delta Momma T-shirt and a new style of beer glass called the Revival glass, the shape of which will enhance the lager style of this new brew.
