Five awesome local po' boy shops are hosting a block party on June 18 to benefit beloved Uptown eatery Guy's Po' Boys, which has suffered some serious misfortunes in the last few years, including a truck plowing into the building in December.
Parkway, Tracey's, Parasol's, Killer Po-Boys and Ye Olde College Inn will serve po' boys at the party along with Guy's, and you can sample them all (with a bag of Zapp's and a cold drink) for $15.
Amazingly, Marvin Matherne—who's owned the 60+ year-old lunch staple since 1992— says that he wasn't even friends with any of the other shop owners when they approached him about a benefit. But Jeff Carreras of Tracey's explains toThe Advocate:
"Marvin was shut down for Christmas, for Sugar Bowl, for Mardi Gras, that's the good time here... that could put you out of business. We don't want to see that happen."
Po' boy camaraderie pretty much rules, folks.
Check out the block party on Saturday, June 18, noon to 4 p.m. in front of Guy's.
