Congrats are in order. Chef Justin Devillier and restaurant Shaya took home top honors respectively at last night's 2016 James Beard Foundation Restaurant and Chef Awards.
Justin Devillier beat out finalists including Brennan's Slade Rushing and Toups Meatery's Isaac Toups for Best Chef: South.
Shaya was named the Best New Restaurant in America.
New Orleans treasure and legendary chef/restaurateur Leah Chase was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award. She awed the crowd during his acceptance speech, remarking "This gives me courage to keep going for about 10 - 12 more years. I'll be in that kitchen."
New Orleanians were up for awards in a few other categories, with finalists including The French 75 and Cure for Outstanding Bar Program, Donald Link for Outstanding Chef, and Commander's Palace for Outstanding Wine Program.
