The Warehouse District's experimental dining gem Root will be relocating to the Lower Garden District later this month, Todd Price reports, moving into the space above its sister restaurant/tasting menu destination Square Root to be exact. That space is currently occupied by cocktail lounge Root Squared, which will be closing.
Root will be open for dinner only, with lunch to come, and maybe even another move to come, as chef Phillip Lopez tells Price that he "hopes to find another, permanent home" for the restaurant eventually.
Lopez is also preparing to open a grungier Dean & Deluca concept Part & Parcel in The Paramount come June and will also reportedly oversee the food at an upcoming hotel in town, but no word on which hotel that is.
Price also reports that current Square Root pastry chef Blake Abene is being laid off at the end of this month.
