Heated croissant dramas from Uptown this week with Brett Anderson reporting that La Boulangerie's clientele can't stand the place since Link Group took over the 16-year-old French bakery from Dominique and Bruno Rizzo in December 2015.
So what are customers pissed off about? Sub-par almond croissants and baguette, too much icing on pastries, no more brie & butter baguette sandwich, the placement of the baristas near the front of the shop and even the updated decor. Yelpers have been making accusations of price gouging as well, and haters have been popping up on the bakery's Facebook page.
Donald Link tells Anderson that running the bakery has been a challenge, but he's trying to make it right. He recently returned the almond croissant recipe back to the original and as for the other pastry items, he says: " We're using the same recipes. Dominique's son still makes the croissants. Carlos, the guy who made the bread before, still makes the bread."
Link also pleads to his customers: "This isn't about making a ton of money. I actually like this bakery. I've always liked this bakery."
