Rue 127 owner and chef Ray Gruezke plans to bring a new barbecue spot Frey Smoked Meat Co. to the Mid City Market (4141 Bienville St) this fall, Ian McNulty reports this week.
The casual restaurant, which was inspired by Gruezke's award-winning Hogs For The Cause team and named in honor of his great-great grandfather who had a French Market stall in the mid-1800s, will take over the the former location of Loubat foodservice supply. The space is currently under renovation with plans for a "full bar and roll-up doors opening to outdoor seating."
The menu will feature barbecue (Gruezke's ribs won the rib category at Hogs a few years ago) and then some: Salads, burgers, redfish on the half shell and a few of Rue 127's favorite items, including the macaroni and cheese and a Mardi Gras signature, the 'Endymion fried chicken' are all planned. There will be 'freakshakes' — milkshakes with crazy flavors— and delivery to the Mid City area as well.
