UPTOWN— After a monthlong renovation HiVolt Bakery is planning to open sometime next week at 5720 Magazine next week, Helen Freund reports. The expansion from HiVolt Coffee takes over the former pie hotspot P's & Q's, where it was already operating a coffee counter. Expect breakfast sandwiches, toast, and pastries galore from baker Liz Hollinger, including vegan and gluten-free options. Planned hours: Wed-Mon, 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. (closed Tuesday). [Gambit]
WAREHOUSE DISTRICT— Magasin empire builder Kim Nguyen and partner Holly Nguyen are planning to open Magasin French Vietnamese Bakery at 329 Julia Street, Todd Price reports. Expect "steamed buns, waffles flavored with pandan, meat pies filled with pâté and grab-and-go banh mi" along with espresso, cafe sua dau, and juices from Nguyen's Sprout & Press juice shop.
