Sad news today with Todd Price reporting that Camellia Grill's beloved fist-bumping server Marvin 'Word' Day has passed away at the age of 50 from causes unknown. Day had been a fixture at the iconic diner since 1990 and "got his nickname by his frequent use of 'word' with the customers, which was adopted by other staff members."
Many Camellia Grill regulars have been sharing their fond memories of Day over on NOLA.com and on Tiger Droppings. A memorial service will be held February 20 at Rhodes Funeral Home (3933 Washington Ave.) with visitation at noon and a funeral to follow.
