UPTOWN— Mardi Gras parade hub and panini spot The Grocery is set to shutter on December 11, Helen Freund reports. The sandwich shop (at 2854 St. Charles Ave) was taken over by French Truck Coffee empire builder Geoffrey Meeker back in February 2016 and reopened after a quick renovation and menu upgrade.
According to Meeker, ‘ongoing landlord disputes’ and distraction from French Truck are two main reasons for the shutter. Meeker also opened the French Truck Cafe in Uptown in 2016, along with a major expansion to Memphis, and plans for French Quarter and Baton Rouge locations in 2017.
Back in September 2015, The Grocery shuttered due to a major rent hike, with then-owner Marcy McCall hoping to potentially relocate the 30-year-old business, which obviously didn’t happen.
The Grocery tells its Facebook followers to “watch the corner for some renovation activity followed by a new shop from some friends of ours.”
