With the New Year upon us, all eyes are on 2017’s hottest anticipated openings. This week, Todd Price has the down low on some exciting new spots heading to New Orleans next year. Here are the highlights.
MID CITY— A hot new wood fire pizzeria from the 1000 Figs team and Leo’s Bread baker Kate Heller (whose loaves you can purchase at 1000 Figs now) will be called Echo’s. Projected opening: summer 2017.
FRENCH QUARTER— Amarys and Jordan Herndon, the masterminds behind Old Portage, a longtime French Quarter pop-up, will open a brick and mortar called Palm & Pine, though location is unknown. Projected opening: spring 2017.
UPTOWN—Former Cellardoor chef Jamielyn Arcega will open Z’kaya, a Japanese Izakaya, later in the year. She plans to test the menu with pop-ups starting in January. Projected opening: Fall 2017.
FRENCHMEN STREET— Cafe Negril hub Ruben’s Taco Truck will expand with three concepts. Ruben's, a pizza/sandwich shop, Ruben's Brazil Taco Truck, serving fried chicken and barbecue, along with a Mexican restaurant set to open on the second floor of Cafe Negril, all from owner Ruben Leite. Projected opening: Early 2017.
BYWATER— Sausage pop up fave Bratz Y’all will go brick and mortar when chef Sven Vorkauf opens a restaurant behind Pizza Delicious, complete with a pretzel bakery. Projected Opening: Early 2017.
