MID CITY— This week, The City Planning Commission gave a unanimous thumbs up to rezoning a residential duplex at 3305-3307 Bienville into a restaurant, and Della Hasselle reports that the concept Bienville Street Coffee House Cafe, which plans to serve breakfast and lunch in the space, does have support from the neighborhood as well. OAK STREET— Todd Price reports that Bacobar chef/owners and Commander’s Palace alums Carl Schaubhut and Jean-Pierre Guidry will open a new Cajun and coastal gastropub DTB Social House (DTB stands for Down the Bayou) at 8201 Oak Street in March 2017. Another Commander’s alum, Jacob Hammel, will be chef de cuisine. Expect “fricassee, sauce piquante and classic boulettes” along with seafood galore, as well as local brews, cocktails. Architects Brooks Graham (of Cochon and Balise fame) and interior pro Valerie Legras are designing the restaurant. [NOLA.com]

UPTOWN— Longtime Westbank caterer and Friday dinner spot Saffron Nola will bring its beloved Indian cuisine to 4128 Magazine in the new year, Price also reports. The Vilkhu family— including Saffron Nola founder and chef Arvinder Vilkhu— plans to open in the former Saveur/Baie Rouge space in March 2017. [NOLA.com]
