The Freret Beer Room is serving beer and food starting with service on Friday, December 2.
Earlier this week, things hit a bit of a speed bump concerning its alcohol licensing, putting the restaurant's grand opening back a couple weeks than originally anticipated. On Wednesday November 30, the kitchen opened with a full food menu, and as of today, all permits are in place and customers can enjoy the restaurants carefully curated, food-friendly, beer selection
Chef Charles Vincent's dishes are as much of a focus as the beer, like PEI mussels, grilled red snapper collar, housemade chorizo sandwich topped with a fried egg, or a crispy chicken confit with popcorn rice and a soft boil egg. Don't overlook the sides, because they are as worthy of attention as the rest of the menu - collards with bacon, potato and turnip gratin, braised chickpeas with mustard frill and roasted chili yogurt.
Small plates and sandwiches range from $7-14 with large plates $14-23, and sides $5-7.
Status: The Freret Beer Room is officially open on Mondays and Wednesdays 4-10 p.m., Fridays 4-midnight, Saturdays 11 a.m.-midnight, and Sundays from 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Closed Tuesdays. 5018 Freret St. (504) 298-7468.
