ST CLAUDE AVENUE— A casual new tavern and art gallery Artisan Bar & Cafe is now open in a former metal-working shop from David Grove and David Stewart, the owners of Marigny neighborhood bar Iggy’s, Ian McNulty reports this week. Along with a fully stocked bar, there’s also a kitchen:
Chef Mike Schafer is starting with a menu of pub grub, to the tune of burgers (and a vegetarian burger), wraps, smoked gouda mac and cheese and quesadillas. He plans to add specials that will eventually migrate to the main menu and expand its range.
The space also features rotating art installations curated by local artist A. Monica da Silva.
Status: Artisan Bar & Cafe is officially open 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. (kitchen opens at 3 p.m.) at 2512 St. Claude Ave. (504) 510-4340.
