Long-awaited grilled cheese spot Melt is now open on Banks Street, Helen Freund reports this week. The anticipated eatery from Barcadia’s Miles Tully Jr. and biz partner Casey Biehl originally hoped to open in early 2016, but was delayed by permitting. Correction 11/17, 4 p.m.: Melt’s owners are Miles Tully Jr. and business partner Greg Hicks.
The restaurant plans to have a roof top deck and courtyard dining by 2017. For now, a ground floor dining area features an open kitchen and a bar with beer and wine on tap or available by the bottle, and major happy hour deals, including a Wine Wednesday with half-price carafes and $5 champagne splits on Fridays.
Menu-wise, expect all things cheese, from cheese boards and charcuterie to cheese fries and loads of grilled cheese, including a boiled shrimp and pimento variation and a pressed ham and brie.
Status: Officially open at 2549 Banks St. (at S. Dorgenois) Monday to Friday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Happy hour from 3 to 7 p.m. Extended hours to come. December. Facebook here. (504) 821-0102.
