Very sad news Uptown, with Ian McNulty reporting that twenty year old sushi stalwart and Eater 38 spot Kyoto is shuttering on October 15. The Prytania staple was operated by longtime owner Sara Molony, who tragically passed away due to cancer in February, and her brother tells McNulty that the family just couldn’t operate the restaurant as well as she had intended.
New building owners Keith Adler and Scott Harris plan “to lease the restaurant space to new operators, though no deal has been finalized.”
Kyoto is the second big name sushi operation to shutter in New Orleans this year, with CBD favorite Horinoya also closing its doors back in May.
