More news on the hotly-anticipated Mid City concept Revel, opening this fall from legendary bartender Chris McMillian and wife Laura.... Todd Price now reports that the new restaurant and bar (coming to the former Juicy Lucy's space) will have a neighborhood feel and, of course, a brilliant bar program. "Mid city is ready for craft cocktails," McMillian tells Price. Expect many a well-crafted classic.
As for the food, gourmet sandwiches from La Boulangerie pastry chef/Emeril's alum Jose Ayala (he's also the McMillians' son in law) will keep things casual, but with quality in mind:
The opening menu will focus on sandwiches, all on Ayala's fresh baked bread, such as grilled cheese on brioche, a bratwurst on a pretzel bun and fried chicken with blue cheese on a buttermilk bun... At night, the offerings will include pretzel brioche sticks, bulgogi wraps and chicken chimichurri kebabs.
The McMillians also plan to roll out a Revel food truck to hit the Medical District during lunch and to provide catering. Revel is expected to open as early as October.
