Gambit food writer Helen Freund has more news on highly-anticipated Texas-style barbecue and beer spot Black Label Icehouse heading to the former Pop's House of Blues at Dryades and Seventh. While the Central City icehouse softly opens this weekend, the official opening will kick off on October 2 with pitmaster/Texas native Damian Brugger rolling out three days of live music and food/beverage specials. Directly following the official opening, a month-long Smoketoberfest will commence, featuring:
German-style beers and snacks, including pretzels flown in from Munich, which Brugger will serve with smoked pork fat and Himalayan sea salt. Also on the menu are brisket sliders on pretzel buns with spicy mustard and house-made sauerkraut, pork schnitzel and German potato salad.
Along with a barbecue menu and meats by the pound, Black Label Icehouse will feature a 30 foot bar with regional beers on 14+ taps and more by the bottle (plus a bar menu), a stage with live local music on weekends, a pool room, and a game room with shuffleboard and old school arcade games.
Freund also reports plans for a weekend brunch pop-up are in the works.
