Ursa Major in the Warehouse District is riding the wave of happy hour success (with an in-house astrologer on hand for free readings on Fridays, and perhaps soon, every day.) The astrological theme of the restaurant means that thirteen (Gemini gets two, natch) different cocktails will be featured throughout the year. Ursa Major's big news, however, is that their cocktail on tap program is ready to roll out just in time for Saints season, making it easy for cocktail and football fans to get a quality beverage in a hurry on the way to the Dome. The featured draft cocktail is The Southpaw, made with Black Magic, ginger, citric acid, Amaro. And... glitter?
Ale on Oak Street will be tapping the first keg of Founder's Red Rye IPA on Friday, August 28 at 6 p.m. Local Founders Brewing sales rep Jeff Cathcart says, "They are indeed the first place to get it. They requested it, and it has not been offered in the city prior to now." According to the brewery's website this beer has "Serious hop bitterness, along with an unyielding grapefruit bouquet from the Amarillo dry hop, balances the malty richness of four varieties of imported Belgian caramel malts. Pours a spectacular crimson with a creamy tan head. A generous addition of rye malt accentuates a spicy, crisp finish." Ale proprietor Patrick Winter says, "I know Founders makes great beer and wanted to have a beer on tap that you can't get anywhere else in Louisiana. We committed to 10 quarter barrels so we will have it around for a good while." Ale will be giving Founders pint glasses away on Friday night as well.
