Barbecue heatmap fave and Belle Chase barbecue shack LA 23 BBQ will start construction on a brick and mortar at their current location later this summer, Brett Anderson reports this week. Owners Bobby Monsted III and Aaron Gelfand will continue to serve barbecue out of their tiny shack until the new restaurant, a 'stainless steel building with a very large porch' modeled after a 'central Texas trading post,' is finished on the same property. What to expect at the new digs?
Seating for 60-70 diners, ceiling fans and windowed, garage-style doors to open when the weather is mild.
Also expect the addition of beer, a few new menu items, and potentially longer hours. LA 23 BBQ is currently open at 9661 Louisiana 23 (aka Belle Chasse Highway), Tues-Fri, 10 a.m. until the meat runs out (usually before 1 p.m.).
