Brasted

Ursa Major, the new constellation and zodiac driven restaurant and lounge from Booty's Street Food is now open in The Paramount in South Market District for lunch, dinner, and happy hour.  Before you make your dinner reservations via Ursa Major's ticketing system or drop in for a noontime sandwich or after work drinks, here's a preview of all menus and the must-order items.

Lunch

Gambit critic Helen Freund reports that the brand new lunch menu is comprised mostly of sandwiches, including a Wisconsin-sourced llama burger and a vegetarian Manchurian 'meatball' sub. There are also some larger plates including Malaysian-style fried chicken, a Bolivian empanada, and charred romaine salad.

Chef Daniel Volponi

Dinner

Ursa Major has an entire menu devoted to Nepalese and Indian inspired thali (large platters comprised of smaller components) with cuisine ranging from Hawaiian—chef Daniel Volponi spent eight years honing his culinary chops on Oahu and on the big island and his Lau Lau thali is unlike anything you'll find in New Orleans right now—to Peruvian, Greek, and more cultures with strong ties to the stars. Small plates offers loads of different flavor from the must-order Okonomiyaki, okonomi-glazed pork belly with flakes on bonita on top to heirloom carrots and even a daily crudo.

Top: Lau Lau thali. Bottom: The Okinomiyaki.

Cocktails

Bar manager Wyatt Lowrey creates a new cocktail list to correspond with the month's astrological sign. Before he does this, he studies the astrological sign to learn what flavors they most enjoy. For the new Cancer menu, notes of strawberry, calvados and even rose are in store.  If it happens to be your birth sign, you get happy hour pricing all month long.  If your birth sign is not in the house, regular happy hour runs 5 to 7 p.m. Mon-Fri. Also on the booze menu: ode to tiki with the communal Scorpio bowl, a daily punch, and a cocktail on tap.

Wyatt Lowrey creates cocktails based on favorite flavors of astrological signs.
