Opening Report: Pelican Cafe Refines Gas Station Eats, Shyan's Kitchen Brings Indian To Metairie

Two new spots to try in Metairie.

METAIRIE—  Todd Price reports that Holly Diliberto, the mastermind behind shuttered fave Blue Plate Cafe, has created the menu for Pelican Cafe, a new restaurant attached to a Chevron. Owner John Roberts has plans to expand to the cafe to more of his gas station locations, including Northshore and in Chalmette. The menu features breakfast and lunch hits including Nutella french toast, wraps, and more. Status: Certified open at 3901 Airline Dr.

METAIRIE— Helen Freund reports that a new Indian and Pakistani restaurant Shyan's Kitchen is now open at 3320 Houma Blvd.  Owner Irfan Khan ran the former French Quarter eatery Salt N Pepper, and brings lots of goat, chicken masala, vegan/vegetarian options and "food prepared according to halal practices" to the new Metairie spot. Status: Certified open at 3320 Houma Blvd.
