Booty's Street Food has spent the past two and a half years establishing itself as a coffee, small plates and seasonal cocktail powerhouse in the Bywater, and now owners Kevin Farrell and Nick Vivion have taken the show on the road, or to the new South Market District anyway. Ursa Major, their hotly-anticipated constellation-themed restaurant and lounge is set to open in The Paramount on Saturday, May 30, Ian McNulty reports today.
The Ursa Major team includes Miles Prescott, former chef of Little Gem Saloon, RioMar and recently-shuttered Tacos & Tequila, who has ditched the kitchen route for FOH and will be General Manager. The cocktail program, created by Wyatt Lowrey, incorporates all things zodiac and star oriented. The food menu, overseen by chef Daniel Volponi, is comprised of global-inspired dishes with small plates including Japanese, Indian, and more flavors, and large platters based on Nepalese and Indian thali (ie. plates comprised of various smaller dishes):
One thali centers on a North African-style leg of lamb with accompanying vegetables, rice and dressings. Another platter brings Hawaiian style pork, salmon and squid with salads and sides.
There will also be monthly specials "designed along zodiac themes," all night happy hours for customers whose "zodiac signs are ruling the heavens," and plans for brunch, lunch and happy hour as things heat up. Also, there are apparently mochi donuts.
Before you bring your moon to the seventh house, do note that Ursa Major is doing reservations a la Chicago's baby-gate gem Alinea, via a reservation ticketing system, which requires a $20 deposit. Walk-ins are based on availability.
