Eater NOLA bartender of the year 2014 and renowned chanteuse Abigail Gullo is departing SoBou this Saturday, May 23, and hopping over to Nina Compton's highly-anticipated CBD showstopper Compère Lapin, officially opening for dinner on June 2, Todd Price reports. If you're wondering if the swanky yet casual gatropub's cocktail program will be outstanding, the answer is duh: Gullo joins the dreamteam of bar manager Ricky Gomez—NOLA native, award-winning alum of Cure and PDX's Riffle NW/Teardrop Lounge has singlehandedly crafted the opening drinks menu— along with Seattle's Rob Roy and Kingfish alum Zac Augustin.
Gomez tells Eater NOLA that the bar is on the larger side with three wells, 8 beer taps—Abita root beer and a carbonated coconut water will be on tap too— an impressive spirits selection and over 20 wines-by-glass. There are over a dozen seats at the bar and more at high tops, and the full restaurant menu—which will feature the likes of curried goat, conch croquettes, plantain gnocchi and more—will be available, as will a happy hour.
Check back tomorrow as Gomez discusses the inspiration behind the cocktail program, with more comprehensive Compère Lapin coverage on the way.
