The owner of steak heaven Gallagher's Grill in Covington is doubling down in St. Tammany: NOLA.com says Pat Gallagher will debut his new 527 Restaurant and Bar "near the foot of the Causeway" in Mandeville come July.

The free-standing building, which was formerly a Japanese restaurant, is getting a complete overhaul; Gallagher says "his new restaurant will feature the same core menu as his existing eatery, but will have different specials." The six-year-old Gallagher's in Covington has been lauded as a top steak destination (T-Fitz likes the gigantic cowboy ribeye) as well as a go-to for seafood gumbo and crab au gratin by the Times-Pic's Brett Anderson.
