Agave lovers, take note: Master tequilero German Gonzalez—a third-generation distiller whose family originally brought America the craft tequila Chinaco—is in town this week and has brought along his rare tequila Tears of Llorona (likened to the Pappy of tequila) and his famed t1 Tequila Uno line. The tequilas are now available in New Orleans at Square Root, SoBou, Superior Grill, Redemption, and Mizado. This week, however, Gonzalez is also hosting a slew of tastings and dinners starting tonight. Here's where you can get a taste.
Mizado: Gonzalez hosts a FREE talk about tequila making and samples of the private stock Tears of Llorona and the t1 line.Tonight, April 8, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Root Squared: Directly following Mizado, Gonzalez then heads to the LGD for another FREE tequila tasting at Square Root's upstairs cocktail. Guests will have the opportunity to sample four expressions of T1 Tequila Uno: Ultra Fino, Selecto (both blancos), Excepcional (Reposado), and Estelar (Anejo), along with a taste of Tears of Llorona. Tonight, April 8, from 8 to 10 p.m.
Superior Grill: This $200/person pairing dinner showcases Gonzalez' finest tequilas served both in cocktails and on their own, including the Tears of Llorona, alongside a five course menu from chef Miguel Chavez (menu below). Reservations at (504) 899-4200. Thurday, April 10, 7 to 9 p.m.
