After nearly two decades of slinging pizzas and chicken marsala, Carrollton Avenue's Cafe Nino is closing up shop on May 31. Chef/owner Nino Bongiorno tells Uptown Messenger that following a brief hiatus, he'll be seeking a new location "in the Warehouse District or possibly Freret Street."
Bongiorno cites location as a factor for the closure, telling Uptown Messenger "the condition of the building he has leased for nearly two decades is now making it more difficult to attract new customers."
Critic Tom Fitzmorris deemed Cafe Nino a worthy pizza destination back in 2012, awarding it three stars and declaring that the restaurant's food "belie[d] its ramshackle appearance."
