Pelican Bay Is A Soul Food Stunner; Irish House Goes Paleo

This week Sarah Baird heads to Pelican Bay, and Ian McNulty readies for St. Paddy's with some new healthier options at Irish House.

ENOLA

For her final review at GambitSarah Baird's heads to Eighth Ward game day hub Pelican Bay, where technicolor drinks and soul food abound. Burgers, fried pickles, wings, sweet potato fries and mac and cheese round out the "rib-sticking" menu at this haunt on Elysian Fields, but the star of the show is the chicken thigh sandwich: "juicy, tender thigh meat... encased in a crackly, deep-fried crust... If you've ever needed a proper introduction to chicken thighs, this is the dish." Wash it down with a Long Island Iced Tea. [Gambit]

As St. Paddy's approaches, Ian McNulty takes a trip to Irish House in the LGD, finding a slew of new healthier and trendier options: "Across the Irish House menu, dishes are now designated as paleo and anti-inflammatory, gluten free or vegetarian." Chef Matt Murphy even has a paleo version of Shepard's Pie, though some items "are immune to modification including the popular fish and chips. [Advocate]
