This week Helen Freund reviews Westbank revamp Lotus Thai Cafe: The former My Thai Cuisine "takes a more casual approach, though the dip in cost doesn't compromise quality. There's dedication to fresh ingredients and cooking techniques honed over the years" from proprietor Terry Cuskelly.  Some dished could be spicier, but the lotus ribs, khao soi, and drunken noodles are legit. Tom Fitzmorris looks back on the best new restaurants of 2015 this week:  Top picks include the only "grand restaurant" on the list Brennan's, along with "the casual zone"— Shaya, Avo, Kin, Compere Lapin, Trenasse, Balise, and Forks & Corks (in Covington).  Hidden gem Messina's Runway Cafe (at Lakeview Airport) also makes the cut, as do The Franklin, Meauxbar, and Johnny Sanchez,  three high profile openings of spring, summer and fall 2014 respectively, because T-Fitz laments "I hold to my tenet that going to brand-new restaurants is a bad idea."
