Ian McNulty shares the news that St. James Cheese Company's second location (or third, if you count its partnership in the French Market's Continental Provisions) in the Warehouse District is opening today (Tuesday, December 22) at 11 a.m.
The "cheese bar" will be open with a limited menu (retail sales, cheese boards, wine, and beer) Tuesday through Thursday, then closed for Christmas weekend, and reopened on Tuesday, December 29 with its full menu of salads and sandwiches.
Learning from the lunchtime insanity of its flagship store, the new location will have separate areas for ordering meals, retail cheese, as well as the new "cheese bar."
The idea sprang from a form of professional development for the St. James staff. Each year, the shop sends representatives to the Cheesemonger Invitational, a national competition for cheese pros. One challenge at the event is to create a "perfect bite," a pairing of cheese and other ingredients. The cheese bar is intended to be a snack bar version of this pursuit.
"There's something really cool about finding that right pairing of flavors with a specific cheese," said Danielle Sutton.
Open at 11 a.m. -6 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday, and regular hours begin on Tuesday, December 29. (also 11 a.m.-6 p.m.)
