The storied family who founded the French Quarter's 'world famous' fried chicken restaurant Fiorellas' will open The Original Fiorellas' in Gentilly by 2016, Ian McNulty reports this week. While Fiorellas' is no longer owned by the actual Fiorella family—they had to sell the 15-year-old eatery in 1999 due to an illness in the family, and it's been sold various times since then— brothers Kelly and Calcie Fiorella plan to restore their family's legacy, dating back to 1940s Central City grocery Fiorellas Fine Foods, and killer fried chicken recipe at the new spot.
The Original Fiorellas will take over the former location of pre-Katrina neighborhood icon Teddy's Grill with counter service and a classic neighborhood menu: Fried seafood, po' boys, Creole Italian staples, daily specials and of course the fried chicken, which Kelly Fiorella, currently a manager at Tableau, has been dazzling his staff with during pre-shift meals. Projected hours: Monday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
