According to a press release, longtime Uptown gem/courtyard fave Martinique Bistro is shuttering today, January 5, after twenty years in business. Owners Cristiano Raffignone and Kelly Barker, who also operate Dick & Jenny's and Cristiano's in Houma, have already leased the space to an undisclosed chef and a new concept will reportedly be going in this spring, after a renovation. Raffignone hopes to 'assist staff' through the shutter, but no word on chef Eric LaBouchere's plans.
UPDATE 10:35 a.m.: Chris Waddington now reports that the new restaurant concept will be Avo, specializing in Italian-inspired Southern cuisine from Gautreau's chef Nick Lama, expected to open in March.
Also, if you have an unused Martinique gift card, contact Dick & Jenny's at (504) 894-9880 for info.
