City Council has unanimously approved plans for the upcoming Uptown restaurant form NYC's Maysville restaurateurs and for the distillery/restaurant Lula in the LGD, Robert Morris reports. Both of these highly-anticipated openings are still on schedule for 2015.
The still-unnamed expansion from NYC restaurateurs behind Maysville, (and more) Mani Dawes and Sean Josephs, will be housed in new construction at Magazine and Nashville. The menu from chef Kyle Knall is rumored to focus on bourbon and oysters as well as smoky American foods, but the 89-seater will likely serve pastries and coffee in the morning and casual lunch items before rolling over into a more fine dining affair at night.
As for Lula, the upcoming distillery and restaurant from chef Jess Bourgeois (a Superior Restaurant Group and Commander's alum) is heading to 1532 St. Charles Ave. Plans call for a small-batch vodka, rum and gin operation with custom-made copper stills, which will be visible from the dining area. The restaurant will feature "Southern rustic" cuisine and seating for about 175, including a bar area. The project itself—though at first drawing parking concerns from neighbors—is now being regarded as the 'first phase of development' for the block, which will also include the upcoming Avenue Oaks Hotel.
