Southern Charmer Brown Butter Opens in Mid City

Open for Lunch only. Dinner rolls out after Mardi Gras.

Mid City has a new spot for Bible Belt comfort food, as Brown Butter Kitchen & Bar has officially opened in the former Wow Wingery space at 231 N. Carrollton (at Bienville). The restaurant is currently open for lunch only, Todd Price reports, with plans to roll out dinner service after Mardi Gras.

As for the lunch menu, pickings are anything but slim. Think warm pork rinds, a chicken and waffle sandwich, a smoked tasso BLT (T.L.T. that is), charcuterie, fried pickles, a paneed bone-in pork chop and more affordable Southern comfort from chef Dayne Womax, who along with partner Simon Beck were two of the founding members of The Salty Swine supper club. (Their colleague Josh Garic is now running the kitchen at the just revamped Q&C bar.) Fear not, health-minded, there are some lighter options too, including salads, fresh catch, and a roasted chicken entree. There's also a kids menu.

The bar will stock some great microbrews, and will no doubt be a great game-watching destination too, but Brown Butter is currently awaiting its license to booze. For now, stick to the housemade sodas, including the signature Brown Butter creme soda.

Status: Officially Open
Current Hours: Tuesday-Sunday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
